Spring Flower Garland

November - spring! (Well, the end of spring - but still!) Sunny days and beautiful flowers. What better way to decorate your room for spring than a flower garland?

This DIY idea was inspired by artbarblog and issuu, the links are attached below.

You can hang this garland literally anywhere, I chose to string it along my bed head. I think it looks really pretty and definitely reminds me of spring! This one may take a while though, depending on how many flowers you will make. The instructions are listed below, have fun!

Materials:

Tissue paper (at least three different colours)

2 pipe cleaners

Yarn/string to thread the flowers on

Scissors

Hole puncher

Circle stencil (on card, about 13cm in diameter)

If you don't have a circle stencil: -Piece of card

-Compass

-Pencil

Method:

Step 1. If you have a circle stencil move on to step 2, if you don't keep reading. On your card, draw a circle with your compass with a diameter of about 13cm. Then cut it out.

Step 2. Fold your stencil in half and then quarters to find the centre. Punch two holes in the centre for pipe-cleaner placing.

Step 3. Using 12 sheets of tissue paper at a time, lay them out on a table. Using your template, trace a row of circles with your pencil. Make sure to trace the holes in the centre as well. Now cut about 7cm of your pipe cleaner off, and thread through your circle. Loosely cut around the circles.

Step 4. Careful cut the circle more precisely along the line. The tissue paper may shift when cutting, but that's ok.

Step 5. Cut the zigzag edge. It doesn't need to be perfect, just make some little points.

Step 6. Now twist the two ends of the pipe cleaner together, sort of to make a little handle.

Step 7. Now this part takes the longest, but is the most satisfying as you see your tissue paper become a flower. Taking one layer at a time, starting at the top, scrunch and fold it together. Repeat this with all the layers. This is a bit tricky to explain so I have made a quick video below on how to do this step. You will notice there are two videos. Click on the second one called 'folding tissue paper flowers'.

Step 8. Now to thread these flowers on your string. Cut the string to the appropriate length and lay it out. Arrange each flower below the string to ensure they are evenly spaced. Now using the pipe cleaners threaded through each flower, wrap the pipe cleaner around the string. A very short video on how to do this is attached above called 'tying flowers on string'.

And there you go! Your spring flower garland is ready to hang anywhere you'd like! And it doesn't have to be just spring, this also looks gorgeous in summer as well!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you've been inspired to do this DIY,
