Christmas Room Decor

Hello kreators and merry christmas!

I know that I have not posted for a very long time, but school's out and I am getting back into the DIY zone:) Below is a range of DIY room decor ideas for your bedroom that you can kreate for this Christmas. I got most of my materials from dollar stores (House2Home is really good) and also Kmart. You may notice that I have used alot of the materials (for example the baubles) in more than one DIY, so just keep that in mind when you're shopping. Use the anchor menu on the right to navigate between the DIYs (otherwise you will be scrolling for a while). Enjoy!

Christmas Shadowbox

This may be one of my favourite DIYs I have done yet, I think it turned out super cute and looks very christmassy. This idea came from this video, however I have kreated mine a little differently. You can also personalise it however you want through choosing a different quote, colour scheme, or decor bits and pieces to put inside the shadow box. So feel free to rekreate mine or use the method as a guide - it's up to you!

Materials:

- shadow box frame (you can get these from a dollar store)

- liquid chalk marker (or any kind of marker that writes on glass, I used a uni px-20 paint marker for $4 at Officeworks)

- print out of a christmas quote (I got mine from here)

- hot glue gun

- scissors

- wrapping paper (optional)

These are some decor ideas that I used, but feel free to experiment with your own:

- baubles

- tinsel

- fairy lights

- sparkly white styrofoam balls

Method:

Inside the Box:

1. I didn't do this step because I wanted to keep the brown background of the backing, but if you want a particular background, pop out the backing of the box (the innermost layer closest to the glass) and wrap it in wrapping paper.

2. Arrange fairy lights across the backing and keep in place with tape. Then use a hot glue gun to carefully glue little spots where you think is appropriate for the wire to stick. If you have extra don't worry, just leave it and the battery pack outside the box (we will deal with it in step 8).

3. Arrange tinsel and again, glue it down with a hot glue gun.

4. Choose and arrange some baubles (make sure they are not too big and the backing can be put back in the frame). Attach a single thread of the string either using hot glue or simply tying it to the bauble. Then put a small spot of hot glue to keep the baubles in place, and hot glue the top of the string to the top of the backing.

Outside the Box:

5. Pop out the glass and clean it (I used Windex and a microfibre cloth)

6. Arrange your quote template behind the glass so it is centred. Then trace the letters with your marker. Wait for it to dry.

7. Once dry, put the glass back in the frame. I then filled it with the white foam balls at the bottom. If you have any more decor that don't need to be hot glued, you would put them in now.

8. Reconstruct the shadow box by putting the backing in the frame. Then loop any remaining fairy lights outside the box around the battery pack. Attach the battery pack to the back of the box using blu tack.

Then you're done! I think this is a really unique DIY and is perfect to light up your room this Christmas.

Christmas Wreath

If you have ever seen wreaths in the windows during December but haven't found the perfect one, DIY and kreate one that suits you and your style. The wreath I have made is simple but looks really pretty on our front door. Before kreating, it helps to look at a few photos of wreaths to incorporate different elements into your own wreath. Again, this is another DIY where you can do your own thing or do what I did, so get kreating!

Materials:

- plain wreath (I got mine for $7 from Kmart)

- wire (optional, I found it helped to secure some of the decor)

These are the materials I used to decorate (from Riot):

- pine cones

- artificial greenery

- glittery foam ball twigs

- baubles

Method:

1. Figure out whether you want your wreath decor to go around the wreath, or on part of the wreath, and decide the position of the centrepiece. I chose to only decorate part of the wreath and do it towards the bottom and a little on the side.

2. Make the focal point. For my wreath, the focal point was the pine cones and baubles, but you could do a bow, tinsel, or something else. I positioned some pine cones and with copper wire, tied them onto the wreath. Using the wire, I then tied three baubles around the pine cones to secure them to the wreath.

3. Embellish. I stuck the greenery in the twigs of the wreath so it came out of the baubles. I finished by breaking off some glittery sprigs and jamming it in the wreath.

And you're done! You may have to experiment with different ideas and strategies, but hopefully you'll end up with a perfect wreath for your door.

Christmas Chalkboard

This is not much of a DIY, but is a great christmas room decor idea to showcase your creative handwriting, or if you are not talented at fancy fonts like myself, it will show your ability to best copy a template Christmas quote! But don't worry, the chalk rubs out easily so there is plenty of room for mistakes :)

Materials:

- chalkboard

- chalk

- bowl of water

- paper towel

- ruler

- christmas quote (just google 'christmas chalkboard quote', but the one I used is here)

- fairy lights (optional)

- ribbon gift topper (optional)

Method:

There isn't really a method for this one, I just did my best to copy the template with chalk. I drew a light line with a ruler where I wanted to write each line so I stayed straight, and then carefully rubbed it out at the end. If you make a mistake, just really lightly dab the paper towel into the water and wipe it away. To finish I stuck a ribbon gift topper on the frame and strung some fairy lights around the frame, and hung it on my wall. You can And that's it!

I think this looks super cute and to make it even more christmassy you could hang some tinsel around it with or without fairy lights, (I just thought mine looked better without tinsel).

Tinsel-Bauble-Light Garland

This DIY is super easy to make and you can string it pretty much everywhere, so enjoy!

Materials:

- tinsel

- baubles

- fairy lights

Method:

1. Twist tinsel around fairy lights. To secure the fairy light end that doesn't have the battery pack, just get the tinsel and tie a knot around the lights.

2. Spread tinsel out on the table and position the baubles where you want them to hang on the tinsel. You can do them singularly, in twos or in threes. Most of my baubles were rose gold, but I sometimes broke it up with a gold bauble.

3. Tie the baubles around both the tinsel and lights.

4. Use blu-tac to string your garland wherever you like. I decided mine would look best above the fire place.

So I hope you enjoyed these DIYs and that this really long blog post makes up for my lack of kreating lately;)

Have a merry Christmas and a great new year!
